Buffalo County is a district in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It has 2,032 inhabitants. The county seat is Gann Valley .

history

The county was established on January 6, 1864 and named after the bison herds in the area.

Two places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Crow Creek Site and the Fort Thompson Mounds . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 30, 2018).
