The US -American state of South Dakota 's 66 counties divided.

The official abbreviation for South Dakota is SD and the FIPS code is 46 . The FIPS code of each individual county always starts with 46 , followed by the three-digit number given in the table for each county.

The population figures shown in the table are based on the results of the 2010 census .
