Bon Homme County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It is located in the south of the state on the Nebraska border . 7,260 people live in the county. The county seat is Tyndall .

The county is located in southeastern South Dakota, borders Nebraska to the south and covers an area of ​​1,506 square kilometers; 47 square kilometers (3.09 percent) of this is water. Bon Homme County is bordered clockwise by the following other counties: Hutchinson County , Yankton County , Knox County, and Charles Mix Counties .

history

The county was formed on April 8, 1862. It is named after an island in the Missouri River . The name goes back to the French phrase bon homme Jaqques (German: "Guter Mann Jacques"), a former derisive term for peasants, which was later worn with pride.

The Tabor School is one of 39 entries for the county in the NRHP.
