Turner County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States .

The county covers an area of ​​1,599 square kilometers; of which 2 square kilometers (0.1 percent) are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Minnehaha County , Lincoln County , Clay County , Yankton County , Hutchinson County, and McCook County .

history

The county was founded on January 13, 1871, and named after John W. Turner (1800-1883), a member of the Dakota Territory Legislative Assembly and inspector of education.

The William Higinbotham House is one of 30 entries for the county in the NRHP.
