Turner County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States .

The county covers an area of 1,599 square kilometers; of which 2 square kilometers (0.1 percent) are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Minnehaha County , Lincoln County , Clay County , Yankton County , Hutchinson County, and McCook County .
history
The county was founded on January 13, 1871, and named after John W. Turner (1800-1883), a member of the Dakota Territory Legislative Assembly and inspector of education.
30 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 9, 2018).
