Campbell County is a county in the north of the US state South Dakota , United States . It has 1466 inhabitants. The county seat is Mound City .

The county covers an area of ​​1998 square kilometers; 92 square kilometers (4.61 percent) of this is water.

history

The county was formed on January 8, 1873, and administration was finally organized on April 17, 1884. It was named after Norman B. Campbell, a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory .

One place in the county has National Historic Landmark status , the Vanderbilt Archeological Site . Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 30, 2018).
