Lake County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Madison .
geography
The county covers an area of 1,489 square kilometers; 31 square kilometers (2.06 percent) of this is water. It borders clockwise on Brookings County to the northeast, Moody County , Minnehaha County , McCook County , Miner County, and Kingsbury County to the northwest.
history
The county was founded on January 8, 1873 and is named after the many lakes in the area.

The borough is divided into 16 townships : Badus, Chester, Clarno, Concord, Farmington, Franklin, Herman, Lake View, Le Roy, Nunda, Orland, Rutland, Summit, Wayne, Wentworth and Winfred.
Lakes
There are several lakes in Lake County that gave the county its name: Buffalo Slough , Brandt Lake , Davis Slough , Gilman Lake , Green Lake , Lake Badus , Lake Herman , Lake Madison , Long Lake , Mud Lake , Pelican Lake, and the Round Lake .
