Lake County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Madison .

geography

The county covers an area of ​​1,489 square kilometers; 31 square kilometers (2.06 percent) of this is water. It borders clockwise on Brookings County to the northeast, Moody County , Minnehaha County , McCook County , Miner County, and Kingsbury County to the northwest.

history

The county was founded on January 8, 1873 and is named after the many lakes in the area.

The Herman Luce Cabin is one of the county's 15 entries in the NRHP.
