Charles Mix County is a district in the southern US state of South Dakota on the border with Nebraska . The county has 9,350 residents. The county seat is Lake Andes .

The county covers an area of 2,979 square kilometers; 136 square kilometers (4.57 percent) of this is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following other counties: Brule County , Aurora County , Douglas County , Hutchinson County , Bon Homme County , Knox County , Boyd County, and Gregory Counties .
history
The county was incorporated on May 8, 1862 and dissolved two years later. In 1879 the county was formed again. It was named after the Indian agent and officer Charles H. Mix (1833-1909).

The county is divided into 24 townships: Bryan, Carroll, Choteau Creek, Darlington, Forbes, Goose Lake, Hamilton, Highland, Howard, Jackson, Kennedy, La Roche, Lake George, Lawrence, Lone Tree, Moore, Platte, Plain Center, Rhoda, Roe, Rouse, Signal, Waheheh, and White Swan; as well as a disorganized territory: Castalia.
