Brule County is a district in the state of South Dakota in the United States . The population in 2000 was 5,364. The county seat in Chamberlain .

The county covers an area of 2,192 square kilometers; 71 square kilometers (3.25 percent) of this is water.
history
The county was established on January 14, 1875. It is named after the Brulé tribe, who are part of the Lakota .
Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 30, 2018).
