Sanborn County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . The county seat is in Woonsocket .

The district has an area of ​​1477 square kilometers; 3 square kilometers (0.21 percent) of this is water. Sanborn County is divided into 16 townships : Alton, Benedict, Butler, Diana, Elliot, Floyd, Jackson, Letcher, Logan, Oneida, Ravenna, Silver Creek, Twin Lake, Union, Warren, and Woonsocket.

history

It was formed on March 9, 1883 and named after George W. Sanborn (1832–?), A senior inspector with the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad , who was responsible for the development of the eastern Dakota Territory by the railroad committed.

Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 9, 2018).
