history

Deuel County was founded on April 5, 1862. The administrative organization was completed on May 20, 1878. The county was named after Jacob Smith Deuel (1830-1898), who ran a sawmill in the area of ​​the later counties since 1860 and sat until 1863 in the legislative assembly of the Dakota Territory . The first county seat was Gary before the administration moved to Clear Lake.

Ten structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 31, 2018).

Population development

According to the 2010 census , Deuel County had 4,364 people in 1,800 households. The population density was 2.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.4 people lived in each of the 1,800 households.
