Jones County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It is named after the politician George W. Jones .

The county covers an area of ​​2517 square kilometers; 3 square kilometers (0.12 percent) of this is water. It is divided into 13 townships: Buffalo, Draper, Dunkel, Grandview, Kolls, Morgan, Mullen, Mussman, Okaton, Scovil, South Creek, Williams Creek and Zickrick; and four disorganized territories: Central Jones, North Jones, Rich Valley, and Westover.

history

The county was incorporated on January 15, 1916 and the administrative organization was completed on January 16, 1917. It was named after the county of the same name in Iowa , whose name goes back to the politician George W. Jones .

The Murdo State Bank is one of five entries of the county in the NRHP.

Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 2, 2018).
