Jones County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It is named after the politician George W. Jones .
geography
The county covers an area of 2517 square kilometers; 3 square kilometers (0.12 percent) of this is water. It is divided into 13 townships: Buffalo, Draper, Dunkel, Grandview, Kolls, Morgan, Mullen, Mussman, Okaton, Scovil, South Creek, Williams Creek and Zickrick; and four disorganized territories: Central Jones, North Jones, Rich Valley, and Westover.
history
The county was incorporated on January 15, 1916 and the administrative organization was completed on January 16, 1917. It was named after the county of the same name in Iowa , whose name goes back to the politician George W. Jones .
