The Jones County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 , the county had 20,638 residents and a population density of 13.9 people per square kilometer. The administrative seat ( county seat ) is Anamosa , named after the Indian word for small dog or after the first name of the daughter of the Indian chief Winnebago.

The county is located in east Iowa, about 50 km to the east from Illinois , to the northeast about 45 km from Wisconsin , and covers an area of 1,494 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It borders on the following neighboring counties:

history
Jones County was formed on December 21, 1837 in what was then Wisconsin Territory . It was named after George W. Jones (1804-1896), a member of the US House of Representatives (1835-1839) and later US Senator from Iowa (1848-1859).
