The Jasper County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 , the county had 36,842 residents and a population density of 19.5 people per square kilometer. By 2013, the population had decreased to 36,641. The county seat is Newton , named after Sergeant John Newton, a hero in the American Revolutionary War.
Jasper County is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Des Moines .

The county is located just southeast of the geographic center of Iowa and has an area of 1,898 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water.
The two headwaters of the Skunk River , a right tributary of the Mississippi, flow through Jasper County from northeast to southwest .

history
Jasper County was formed on January 13, 1846 from former parts of Mahaska County. It was named after Sergeant William Jasper (around 1750–1779) who fell in the American War of Independence .
