The Winnebago County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 , the county had 10,866 residents and a population density of 10.5 people per square kilometer. By 2013 the population had decreased to 10,554. The county seat is Forest City . The city is mostly in Winnebago County and a smaller part in Hancock County .

The county is located in the far north of Iowa, on the Minnesota border, and has an area of 1,040 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water.
The Winnebago River rises in the north of the county and flows through the county in a north-south direction and forms part of the Mississippi basin via the Shell Rock River , the Cedar River and the Iowa River .
