The Kossuth County is a county in the US state of Iowa . At the 2010 census , the county had 15,543 people and a population density of 6.2 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Algona .
geography
The county is located in the far north of Iowa, bordering Minnesota, and has an area of 2,524 square kilometers, including four square kilometers of water. This makes it the largest county in the state by area. It borders on the following neighboring counties:

history
Kossuth County was formed on January 15, 1851 from former parts of Webster County. It was named after Lajos Kossuth , a Hungarian patriot who went into exile from Hungary against Austria to America after the fight for freedom .
When Bancroft County was dissolved in 1855 , Kossuth County expanded considerably and has since bordered northern Minnesota.
5 of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places .
