The Mitchell County is a county in the US state of Iowa . At the 2010 census , the county had 10,776 people and a population density of 8.9 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Osage , named after Orrin Sage, an early patron of the city.

J. Mitchel

Mitchell County was formed in 1851 from former parts of Chickasaw County. It was named after John Mitchel (1815–1875), an Irish patriot.
