Hyde County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States .

geography

The county covers an area of ​​2224 square kilometers; 15 square kilometers (0.65 percent) of this is water. It is divided into two townships: Valley and William Hamilton; and three disorganized territories: Central Hyde, Crow Creek, and North Hyde.

history

The county was incorporated on January 8, 1873, and the administrative organization was completed on October 1, 1883. It was named after James Hyde (1842-1902), a survivor of the Andersonville POW camp and a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory .

Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 2, 2018).
