Knox County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Center , named after its central location in the county.

The county is located in northeast Nebraska, bordering South Dakota to the north and has an area of 2952 square kilometers, of which 82 square kilometers are water. In Nebraska, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cedar County , Pierce County , Antelope County , Holt County, and Boyd Counties .
history
Knox County was formed in 1854. It was named after Major General Henry Knox .

As of the 2000 census , Knox County had 9,374 people in 3,811 households and 2,595 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.63 percent white, 0.09 percent African American, 7.12 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.34 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.63 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.91 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,811 households, 29.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 6.0 percent were single mothers, 31.9 percent were non-families, 29.9 percent were single households, and 17.4 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.5 percent of residents under the age of 18, 5.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 21.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 23.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 95.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 27,564 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,073. Males had a median income of $ 23,373 versus $ 18,319 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,971. 12.5 percent of families and 15.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 20.4 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 13.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
