Otoe County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Nebraska City , which was named after the Indian expression for the Platte River .

The county is located in the extreme southeast of Nebraska, borders Iowa and Missouri to the east and has an area of ​​1,603 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cass County , Nemaha County , Johnson County , Gage County, and Lancaster County .

history

Otoe County was formed in 1854. It was named after the Indian people of the same name.

According to the 2000 census , Otoe County had 15,396 people. 360 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,060 households and 4,229 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.42 percent white, 0.29 percent African American, 0.22 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.14 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races.
