Furnas County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Beaver City , named for its location in the Beaver River Valley .

Furnas County was formed in 1873. It was named after the governor Robert W. Furnas .
Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Furnas County had 5,324 people. 134 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2,278 households and 1,489 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.2 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 0.3 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.2 percent of the population.
Of the 2,278 households, 28.0 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.2 percent were married couples living together, 5.9 percent were single mothers, 34.6 percent were non-families, 32.5 percent were single households and 19.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.88 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.1 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 23.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 88.0 men.
The median income for a household in the county was $ 30,498 , and the median income for a family was $ 37,000. Males had a median income of $ 26,563 versus $ 19,918 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,223. 6.9 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 14.5 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 10.5 percent of people aged 65 and over.
