Sioux County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Harrison , named after President Benjamin Harrison .

geography

The county is located in the far northwest of Nebraska, borders Wyoming to the west, South Dakota to the north and has an area of ​​5354 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. In Nebraska, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Dawes County , Box Butte County, and Scotts Bluff County .

The Niobrara River flows through the county from west to east , and on it lies the Agate Fossil Beds National Monument , a fossil deposit from the Miocene around 20 million years ago.

history

Sioux County was formed in 1877. It was named after the Sioux people .

One place in the county has National Historic Landmark status , Fort Robinson and Red Cloud Agency . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 12, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Sioux County had 1,475 people in 605 households and 444 families. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.63 percent white, 0.00 percent African American, 0.14 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian and 1.15 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.88 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.31 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 111.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 102.2 men.

The median income for a household in the 29,851 USD , and the median income for a family was 31,406 USD. Males had a median income of $ 23,409 versus $ 21,490 for females.
