Loup County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Taylor , named after Ed Taylor an early pioneer in the area.

The county is located north of the geographic center of Nebraska and covers an area of 1,479 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Holt County , Garfield County , Custer County , Blaine County , Brown County, and Rock County .
history
Loup County was formed in 1883. It was named after a Pawnee Indian , named Loup or after the Loup River .
Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Loup County had 712 people in 289 households and 206 families. The population density was 0 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.88 percent white, 0.00 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian and 0.42 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.28 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.69 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 289 households, 31.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 64.7 percent were married couples living together, 4.2 percent were single mothers, 28.4 percent were non-families, 27.0 percent were single households and 17.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 4.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 19.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 108.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 100.0 men.
The median income for a household in the 26.250 USD , the average income for a family was 27,788 USD. Males had a median income of $ 20,515 versus $ 20,972 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,427. 14.2 percent of families and 17.7 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 22.9 percent were children or young people under the age of 18 and 11.6 percent were people over 65 years of age.
