The Blaine County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Brewster , named after George W. Brewster , the city's founder.

The county is just north of the geographic center of Nebraska and covers an area of 1,850 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Blaine County was formed in 1885 from territory that was designated as free - but actually inhabited by Indians . It was named after James G. Blaine (1830-1893), a US Senator (1876-1881), US Secretary of State (1881, 1889-1892) and, as a member of the Democratic Republican Party, US presidential candidate in 1884.

As of the 2000 census , Blaine County had 583 people in 238 households and 168 families. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.0 percent white and 0.5 percent Native American; 0.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 0.2 percent of the population.
Of the 238 households, 30.3 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 66.0 percent were married couples living together, 2.5 percent were single mothers, 29.0 percent were non-families, 26.9 percent were single households, and 13.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.98.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 3.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 100.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 25,278 , and the median income for a family is $ 28,472. Males had a median income of $ 17,917 versus $ 20,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,323. 18.7 percent of families and 19.4 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 21.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 9.4 percent were people over 65 years of age.
