Seward County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Seward .

The county is located in southeastern Nebraska, about 50 miles to the south from Kansas , about 90 miles to the east from Iowa and Missouri , and covers an area of 1,491 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Butler County , Lancaster County , Saline County , Fillmore County , York County, and Polk Counties .

Seward County was formed in 1867. It was named after William H. Seward , a foreign secretary.

After the census in 2000 16 496 people lived in Seward County. Of these, 1,291 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,013 households and 4,215 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.05 percent white, 0.28 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.29 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.40 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.72 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.09 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,013 households, 32.8 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 5.6 percent were single mothers, 29.9 percent were non-families, 24.9 percent were single households and 12.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.04.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.7 percent of residents under the age of 18, 14.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 102.5 men.
The median income for a household in the 42,700 USD , and the median income for a family was 51,813 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,218 versus $ 22,329 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,379. 4.1 percent of families and 7.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. These included 6.2 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.8 percent of people over 65 years of age.
