Greeley County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Greeley .

The county is east of the geographic center of Nebraska and has an area of 1,478 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wheeler County , Boone County , Nance County , Howard County , Sherman County, and Valley Counties .
history
Greeley County was formed in 1871. It was named after Horace Greeley , an early publicist.
Six buildings in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Greeley County's population was 2,714. Of these, 62 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,077 households and 734 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.9 percent white, 0.7 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.8 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.9 percent of the population.
Of the 1,077 households, 29.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 6.4 percent were single mothers, 31.8 percent were non-families, 30.5 percent were single households, and 18.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.08.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.9 percent of residents under the age of 18, 5.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 21.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 23.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,375 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,159. Males had a median income of $ 22,036 versus $ 17,056 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,731. 11.9 percent of families and 14.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. These included 22.1 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 10.5 percent of residents aged 65 and over.
