Stanton County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Stanton .

The county is located in northeast Nebraska, about 90 km to the north from South Dakota , about 80 km to the east from Iowa , and covers an area of ​​1,116 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cuming County , Colfax County , Platte County , Madison County, and Wayne Counties .

history

Stanton County was formed in 1865. It was named after Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton during the tenure of President Abraham Lincoln .

According to the 2000 census , Stanton County had 6,455 people in 2,297 households and 1,784 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer.
