Keya Paha County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Springview .

The county is located in the far north of Nebraska, borders the state of South Dakota and has an area of 2005 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. In Nebraska, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Boyd County , Rock County , Brown County, and Cherry County .

Part of Key Paha County is the Niobrara Valley Preserve .

history

Keya Paha County was formed in 1884. It was named after the Keya Paha River .

Two structures in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018), a school and a bridge.

According to the 2000 census , Keya Paha County had 983 people in 409 households and 292 families. The population density was 0.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.4 percent white, 0.2 percent Native American and 0.0 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.9 percent of the population.

Of the 409 households, 24.9 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 64.3 percent were married couples living together, 4.4 percent were single mothers, 28.6 percent were non-families, 26.2 percent were single households, and 13.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.91 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 20.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 101.9 men statistically.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 24,911 , and the median income for a family is $ 28,287. Males had a median income of $ 18,750 versus $ 19,107 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,860. 22.4 percent of families and 26.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. 34.3 percent of these were children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 18.8 percent were people aged 65 and over.
