Garden County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Oshkosh .

The county is located in west-central Nebraska, about 25 miles south of Colorado and has an area of 4483 square kilometers, of which 69 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Sheridan County , Grant County , Arthur County , Keith County , Deuel County , Cheyenne County, and Morrill Counties .

history

Garden County was formed in 1909. It was named in the hope that this country would become the Garden of the West or based on the "Garden of Eden".

One site has National Historic Landmark status , the Ash Hollow Cave . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Garden County had 2,292 people in 1,020 households and 658 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.34 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian and 0.52 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.48 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,020 households, 24.8 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 55.9 percent were married couples living together, 6.0 percent were single mothers, 35.4 percent were non-families, 32.5 percent were single households, and 16.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.77 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 21.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 4.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 24.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 91.4 men.

The median income for a household in the 26,458 USD , and the median income for a family was 32,546 USD. Males had a median income of $ 21,495 versus $ 17,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,414. 10.8 percent of families and 14.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 22.0 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
