S. Colfax

Colfax County was formed in 1869. It was named after Schuyler Colfax , the 17th Vice President of the United States (1869–1873).

According to the 2000 census , Colfax County had 10,441 people in 3,682 households and 2,592 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.73 percent white, 0.07 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.14 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 15.94 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.73 percent were descended from two or more races.
