York County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is York .

The county is located in southeastern Nebraska, about 50 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of 1,492 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Seward County , Fillmore County , Hamilton County, and Polk Counties .
history
York County was formed in 1855. It was named after either the city of York in England or York County in Pennsylvania .

York County had 14,598 people as of the 2000 census . 725 of them were housed in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,722 households and 3,931 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.78 percent white, 0.96 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.49 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.64 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.77 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.40 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,722 households, 31.1 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.2 percent were married couples living together, 6.0 percent were single mothers, 31.3 percent were non-families, 27.5 percent were single households and 14.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over there were statistically 88.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,093 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,741. Males had a median income of $ 30,658 versus $ 19,874 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,670. 6.0 percent of families and 8.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. These included 9.9 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.1 percent of people over 65 years of age.
