York County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is York .

The county is located in southeastern Nebraska, about 50 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of ​​1,492 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Seward County , Fillmore County , Hamilton County, and Polk Counties .

history

York County was formed in 1855. It was named after either the city of York in England or York County in Pennsylvania .

York County had 14,598 people as of the 2000 census . 725 of them were housed in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,722 households and 3,931 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.78 percent white, 0.96 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.49 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.64 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.77 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.40 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,093 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,741. Males had a median income of $ 30,658 versus $ 19,874 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,670. 6.0 percent of families and 8.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
