Morrill County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Bridgeport , which was named after a bridge over the North Platte River .

The county is located almost in the far west of Nebraska, about 50 kilometers to the south from Colorado , about 60 kilometers to the west from Wyoming and has an area of 3703 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Box Butte County , Sheridan County , Garden County , Cheyenne County , Banner County, and Scotts Bluff Counties .

Morrill County was formed in 1908. It was named after Charles Henry Morrill , a president of the University of Nebraska .

As of the 2000 census , Morrill County's population was 5,440. 108 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2,138 households and 1,494 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.68 percent white, 0.07 percent African American, 0.72 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian and 4.12 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 10.09 percent of the population.
Of the 2,138 households, 32.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.5 percent were married couples living together, 6.5 percent were single mothers, 30.1 percent were non-families, 26.9 percent were single households, and 13.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.03.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 7.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 95.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 30,235 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 36,673 USD. Males had a median income of $ 27,107 versus $ 19,271 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,725. 10.0 percent of families and 14.7 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 20.0 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 10.3 percent of seniors aged 65 and over.
