Sherman County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Loup City , which was named after the Loup River .

The county is located a little southeast of the geographic center of Nebraska and has an area of ​​1,481 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Howard County , Buffalo County , Custer County , Valley County, and Greeley County .

history

Sherman County was formed on 1871. It was named after General William Tecumseh Sherman .

According to the 2000 census , there were 3,318 people in Sherman County. 55 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,394 households and 935 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.5 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 0.5 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.5 percent were descended from two or more races.
