Gage County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Beatrice , named after Julia Beatrice Kinney , daughter of a judge and first president of the Nebraska Association, JF Kinney .

Gage County was formed in 1855. It was named after the Minister William D. Gage .

As of the 2000 census , Gage County had 22,993 people in 9,316 households and 6,204 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.69 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.28 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island region and 0.26 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races.
