The Banner County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Harrisburg , which was named after the city of Harrisburg in Pennsylvania .

The county is located in the far west of Nebraska on the border with Wyoming , is about 40 km from Colorado in the south and has an area of ​​1933 square kilometers with no significant water surface. It borders on the following counties:

history

Banner County was formed in 1888 from parts of Cheyenne County.

One place in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 9, 2018), the CC Hampton Homestead .

As of the 2000 census , Banner County had 819 people in 311 households and 237 families. The population density was 0.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.9 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 3.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.6 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.6 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.

Of the 311 households, 30.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 70.1 percent were married couples living together, 4.2 percent were single mothers, 23.5 percent were non-families, 19.9 percent were single households and 9.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.06.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 3.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 108.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 101.0 men statistically.

The median income for a household in the 31,339 US dollars (USD), and the median income for a family was 41,538 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,250 versus $ 18,750 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,149. 12.3 percent of families and 13.6 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 19.0 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 11.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
