Saunders County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Wahoo .

The county is located in eastern Nebraska, about 50 km from Iowa , and has an area of 1965 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Douglas County , Sarpy County , Cass County , Lancaster County , Butler County, and Dodge County .
history
Saunders County was formed in 1856. It was named after Alvin Saunders , a governor of the former territory.

As of the 2000 census , Saunders County had 19,830 people in 7,498 households and 5,443 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.49 percent white, 0.11 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.55 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.03 percent of the population.
Of the 7,498 households, 34.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.6 percent were married couples living together, 6.7 percent were single mothers, 27.4 percent were non-families, 23.6 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.11.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.9 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 22.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over, there were 98.1 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 42,173 USD , and the median income for a family was 49,443 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,309 versus $ 22,922 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,392. 5.3 percent of families and 6.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. 7.3 percent of them were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.0 percent were people over 65 years of age.
