Saunders County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Wahoo .

The county is located in eastern Nebraska, about 50 km from Iowa , and has an area of ​​1965 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Douglas County , Sarpy County , Cass County , Lancaster County , Butler County, and Dodge County .

Saunders County was formed in 1856. It was named after Alvin Saunders , a governor of the former territory.

As of the 2000 census , Saunders County had 19,830 people in 7,498 households and 5,443 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.49 percent white, 0.11 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.55 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.03 percent of the population.
