Kimball County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Kimball .

The county is located in the far west of Nebraska, borders Colorado to the south, Wyoming to the west and has an area of 2,466 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties in Nebraska: Banner County and Cheyenne Counties .
history
Kimball County was formed in 1888. It was named after the railway pioneer Thomas L. Kimball .
Five buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

Kimball County had a population of 4,089 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 60 people were housed in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,727 households and 1,136 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.7 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.3 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,727 households, 26.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 56.1 percent were married couples living together, 6.7 percent were single mothers, 34.2 percent were non-families, 30.5 percent were single households, and 15.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 21.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 91.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 30,586 , and the median income for a family was $ 35,880. Males had a median income of $ 28,300 versus $ 16,863 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,525. 9.1 percent of families and 11.1 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 12.3 percent were children and young people under the age of 18 and 5.9 percent were people aged 65 and over.
