Washington County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Blair , which was named after the railway pioneer John I. Blair .

The county is located in the far east of Nebraska, borders the state of Iowa and has an area of 1020 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Burt County , Douglas County, and Dodge County .
history
Washington County was formed in 1854. It was named after President George Washington .
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , Fort Atkinson . Twelve buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 13, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Washington County had 18,780 people in 6,940 households and 5,149 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.12 percent white, 0.34 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.29 percent Asian, 0.11 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.30 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.63 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.08 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,940 households, 36.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 64.0 percent were married couples living together, 7.0 percent were single mothers, 25.8 percent were non-families, 21.8 percent were single households, and 10.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.09.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.1 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 96.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 48,500 USD , and the median income for a family was 56,429 USD. Males had a median income of $ 36,901 versus $ 25,893 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,055. 4.1 percent of families and 6.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. 8.0 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
