Fillmore County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Geneva .

The county is located in southeast Nebraska, about 25 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of 1,493 square kilometers with no significant body of water. The following counties border Fillmore County:

history

Fillmore County was formed in 1856. It was named after President Millard Fillmore .

According to the 2000 census , Fillmore County had 6,634 people. Of these, 264 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2,689 households and 1,801 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.8 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.8 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.7 percent of the population.

Of the 2,689 households, 30.2 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 5.0 percent were single mothers, 33.0 percent were non-families, 30.2 percent were single households, and 16.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.95.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.3 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 21.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 91.3 men statistically.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,162 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,725. Males had a median income of $ 29,813 versus $ 18,507 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,465. 4.8 percent of families and 7.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. 8.2 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 10.0 percent were people over 65 years of age.
