McPherson County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Tryon .

The county is located west of the geographic center of Nebraska and covers an area of ​​2227 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hooker County , Thomas County , Logan County , Lincoln County , Keith County, and Arthur County .

McPherson County was formed in 1887. It was named after the Union General James B. McPherson .

According to the 2000 census , McPherson County had 533 people in 202 households and 157 families. The population density was 0.24 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.94 percent white, 0.38 percent Asian and 1.69 percent from other ethnic groups. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.50 percent of the population.
