The Dixon County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The administrative seat ( county seat ) is Ponca , which was named after the Indian people Ponca .
geography
The county is located in the extreme northeast of Nebraska and borders South Dakota to the east and north , from which it is separated by the Missouri River . It has an area of 1234 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. The following counties border Dixon County:

history
Dixon County was formed in 1856 from former parts of Blackbird Counties and Izard Counties as well as from land designated as free, i.e. former Indian land. It was named after the Dixon family , the first white settlers in the area.
Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 10, 2018).
