The Cuming County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is West Point , named after its location in the Elkhorn River Valley .

The county is located in eastern Nebraska, about 25 miles from Iowa , and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Cuming

Cuming County was formed from part of Burt County in 1855. It was named after Thomas B. Cuming (1827-1858), who twice governor of Nebraska  -  territory was (1854-1855, 1857-1858).

Three of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 10, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Cuming County had 10,203 people in 3,945 households and 2,757 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.88 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.63 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.48 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.

The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.08.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 20.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 99.2 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,186 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,369. Males had a median income of $ 26,577 versus $ 19,246 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,443. 7.0 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 9.8 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
