Hooker County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Mullen .

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Nebraska and covers an area of 1,869 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cherry County , Thomas County , McPherson County , Arthur County, and Grant County .
history
Hooker County was formed in 1889. It was named after General Joseph Hooker .
Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

Hooker County's population was 783 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 26 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 335 households and 220 families. The population density was 0.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.7 percent white, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.6 percent were from two or more variations. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.0 percent of the population.
Of the 335 households, 26.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 3.9 percent were single mothers, 34.3 percent were non-families, 33.1 percent were single households and 19.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.90.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 4.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 21.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 26.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 83.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 84.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 27,868 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,114. Males had a median income of $ 25,234 versus $ 16,250 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,513. 4.9 percent of families and 6.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 5.3 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
