Rock County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Bassett , named after JW Bassett , an early rancher in the area.

The county is located in northern Nebraska, about 30 km from South Dakota and has an area of ​​2,621 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Keya Paha County , Boyd County , Holt County , Loup County, and Brown Counties .

history

Rock County was formed in 1888. It was named after the rocky soil prevailing here.

As of the 2000 census , Rock County had 1,756 people in 763 households and 501 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.03 percent white, 0.46 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian and 0.06 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.28 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.51 percent of the population.

Of the 763 households, 26.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.4 percent were married couples living together, 6.4 percent were single mothers, 34.3 percent were non-families, 31.3 percent were single households, and 15.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.84 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 22.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 89.9 men.
