Bassett is a city in the US state of Nebraska . It is the county seat of Rock County and had 743 inhabitants at the 2000 census .
After the first settlers settled in the area of today's Bassett in 1878, an extensive settlement of the place began in 1882, in which the first goods store opened in the same year. The first school was set up in 1883. On February 8, 1887, the place with then about 40 inhabitants was officially registered as a municipality.
Bassett is at the intersection of US Highways 20 and 183 ; Rock County Airport is just under three kilometers west of the city . The site is home to three schools including Rock County High School .
