Kearney County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The administrative seat ( county seat ) is Minden , which was named after German immigrants from Minden .

The county is located in southern Nebraska, about 25 miles from the state of Kansas , and has an area of ​​1,337 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Buffalo County , Adams County , Webster County , Franklin County , Harlan County, and Phelps County .

history

Kearney County was formed in 1860. It was named after Fort Kearny , which in turn was named after Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearny .

According to the 2000 census , Kearney County had 6,882 people in 2,643 households and 1,902 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.82 percent white, 0.16 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.99 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.58 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.34 percent of the population.
