Frontier County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Stockville .

The county is located southwest of the geographic center of Nebraska, is about 25 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of 2,438 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. The following counties border Frontier County:

history
Frontier County was formed in 1872. It was named after its location along the border in the late 19th century.
Two archaeological sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 11, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Frontier County had 3,099 people in 1,192 households and 828 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.29 percent white, 0.10 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian and 0.39 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.97 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,192 households, 31.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.5 percent were married couples living together, 4.8 percent were single mothers, 30.5 percent were non-families, 26.3 percent were single households, and 12.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 11.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 98.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,038 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,664. Males had a median income of $ 25,792 versus $ 16,941 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,648. 9.3 percent of families and 12.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 9.9 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.3 percent were people over 65 years of age.
