The county is located southwest of the geographic center of Nebraska, is about 25 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of ​​2,438 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. The following counties border Frontier County:

history

Frontier County was formed in 1872. It was named after its location along the border in the late 19th century.

As of the 2000 census , Frontier County had 3,099 people in 1,192 households and 828 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.29 percent white, 0.10 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian and 0.39 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.97 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,192 households, 31.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.5 percent were married couples living together, 4.8 percent were single mothers, 30.5 percent were non-families, 26.3 percent were single households, and 12.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02.
