The Box Butte County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Alliance , which was named after the city of the same name Alliance in Ohio .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Nebraska, about 50 km to the west from Wyoming , about 60 km to the north from South Dakota and has an area of ​​2,792 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Box Butte County was formed in 1886 on what was once Dawes County's territory. It was named after a cuboid (ger .: box shaped ) monolith (ger .: Butte ) near the city of Alliance.

As of the 2000 census , Box Butte County had 12,158 people in 4,780 households and 3,298 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.84 percent white, 0.37 percent African American, 2.74 percent Native American, 0.53 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.55 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.96 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 7.65 percent of the population.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 99.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.6 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 39,366 , and the median income for a family was $ 46,670. Males had a median income of $ 36,966 versus $ 21,762 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,407. 9.7 percent of families and 10.7 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
