The Adams County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Hastings , named after Colonel DT Hastings of the St. Joseph and Grand Island Railroad .

The county is located in southwest Nebraska, about 25 miles south of Kansas , and has an area of 1,461 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

J. Adams

Adams County was formed in 1867. It was named after John Adams (1735–1826), the second President of the United States (1797–1801).

Adams County had a population of 31,151 people as of the 2000 census . 1,642 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 12,141 households and 7,964 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.54 percent white, 0.64 percent African American, 0.36 percent Native American, 1.60 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.99 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.83 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.58 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.

Of the 12,141 households, 30.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.4 percent were married couples living together, 8.3 percent were single mothers, 34.4 percent were non-families, 28.6 percent were single households, and 13.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.00.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 11.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 96.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.8 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 37,160 , and the median income for a family was $ 45,620. Males had a median income of $ 29,842 versus $ 21,236 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,308. 5.5 percent of families and 9.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. These included 10.4 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 6.7 percent of seniors aged 65 and over.
