The North Platte River (also North Platte ) is next to the South Platte River one of the headwaters of the Platte River in the USA .
The 1,094 km long river has its source near the city of Walden , Colorado , in the Rocky Mountains . In its further course it flows through the US states Wyoming and Nebraska . In Wyoming in Glendo State Park it is dammed by a dam to form a large reservoir, the Glendo Reservoir, and its water is used to generate electricity. In the Great Plains he has shaped the landscape for millions of years and left behind natural monuments such as Scotts Bluff National Monument . In North Platte , the North and South Platte Rivers merge to form the Platte River .
Near its source, the river is known for its rafting and fly fishing opportunities .
