Casper [ kæspɚ ] with around 59,000 inhabitants (2016) is the second largest city in the US state of Wyoming after the capital Cheyenne . The city is the county seat of Natrona County and is located on the North Platte River at the foot of Casper Mountain . Casper's economic focus is on the extraction and refining of crude oil as well as large-scale cattle and sheep breeding.

Casper / Natrona County International Airport is twelve kilometers west of the city .
